Static friction provides centripetal force when the body is in proper circular motion or there is no motion relative to radial direction. If the motion is not properly circular, then kinetic friction provides centripetal force.

when moving on a curved horizontal road, u need centripital force of mv2/r. where v is your velocity. this force is provided by friction when the road is horizontal, and when the road is banked, the normal reaction also gives a component to this force.

.

so when on a horizontal road, the frictional force between the tires and the road provide the necessary centripital force.
