Hi Akshaya,

For a linear motion there can be only 2 directions for velocity and accelaration. Same or reverse. Same when accelaration is causing the velocity to increase and opposite when it is deaccelarating the body.

For 2 or 3 dimensions, there can be Initial velocity of body in any direction. The force can act on the body from any direction too and thus we can have accelaration and velocity making the angle between 0 and 180 degrees. The accelaration can Increase or decrease the velocity depending on angle between them.

If Initially body is at rest and u apply forces on a body then its velocity and net accelaration will always have same direction.
