A light smooth pulley fixed to the ceiling of an elevator car carries a thread whose ends are attachedd to the loads m1 and m2(m1>m2).The car starts going up with accelaration a.Assume the masses of the pulley to be zero and negligible friction in the system and the ropes are massless.
a)find accelaration of m1 relative to ground.
b)Find force exerted by the pulley on the ceiling of the car.

let the acceleration wrt to earth be A( it will be same but wrt to box the acc r diff)

now go to the car frame and thus apply pseudo forces to both blocks downwards(as acc is up).

now the question as basic one with just two additional forces. let tension T.

m1g+ m1a - T= m1A

T- m2a- m2g= m2A

solve to get A.

acc of 1 wrt box= A+a

acc of 2 wrt box= A-a(sign gives direction) { by relative concept}

force exerted by pulley = 2T
