One must assume STREAMLINED flow, that is, each particle in the jet follows the same trajectory.

The mathematical details involved are the speed and the angle (with respect to horizontal) of water jet at exit point.

From now on, it is just a simple problem on two-dimensional projectile motion. The trajectory is obviously a parabola.
