i came to know the total marks of IIT JEE 2012 are only 401 not 408, is it true?

Yes ofcourse. But this does not make much difference or alteration to the cutoffs expected this year around.

IIT-JEE 2012 was according to me easier than IIT-JEE 2011 and so I expect a lot of students to perform really well in their examinations and hope you have done well too..
