use property of (a+ b – x) and add
 
you get
 
2I = integration from -pi to pi (cos^2x(a^x+ 1) / (a^x+ 1)) dx
 
2I = integrationfrom -pi to pi  of (cos^2x) dx
 
as cos^2 x is even function
 
I = integrationfrom 0 to pi ( 1 + cos 2x)/2 dx
 
I = [x/2 + sin2x/4]0pi
 
I = pi/2 + 1
