Hello there,

Oxygen(O), sulphur(S) and selenium(Se) belong to the group 16 of the modern periodic table in 2nd, 3rd and 4rth period respectively.

The reason I mentioned periods is because as we go down a group, the size of the atom increases. So atomic radius is of the order Se>S>O. Moreover, we consider the double bond bond energy as oxygen exists in pi bonded diatomic molecules.

As the size of atoms increase, so does the size of p-orbitals, and consequently they become more diffuse. Due to this, the pi bonds formed are weaker down the group.

Hence the bond energy is maximum for O2, then S2 and lastly Se2.
