H- is larger than Br- , bcz in case of H- no.of electron=2, while no. Of proton =1 ;so the ratio become 2. It makes H- highly polarizable (and due to this reason,it acts as a very good bridging ligand in organometallic clusters)… now, polarizability directly proportional to volume ; greater the polarizability, greater will be volume, so larger will be the radius. Now, both theoretically & experimentally, polarizability of hydride ion is greater than bromide. Therefore, H- is larger than Br- in size.

  • H is a simple monoelectronic species but H- is a not monoelectronic species. As we know the orbital energy levels are the result of the experiment of Lymen, Balmer, Paschen, Brackett and Pfund etc, which was for the simple monoelectronic species H atom and from these eexperimentswe know probably distribution curve and the shape of orbitals and radius . P dumbelled , s spherical etc and hence the H- have higer interelectronic repulsions than attraction by nucleas  , because of these interelectronic repulsions are effectively dominate holding tendency of nucleus therefore the electrons of H-  will have higher energy  , so higher energy is nothing but the higher energy levels live 4S , 6s and so on... So this is the reason why H- is larger in size tha Br-, but H- is strongly basic because of high energy electronic state they can easily attack on sigma* C-H taht is high energy LUMO... And liberate H2 gas.. So the entropy of that system increases effectively and this will became driving force of some reactions in most of the tumes
