the electron affinity of O2 is lesser than its next member in group.why?

it is because of the 1/2 filled p subshell. In N, the p subshell is half filled. Thus, it is where it is and it does not want to take on another electron which would disrupt it's stability. Thanks & Regards Mukesh Sharma askIITians Faculty
