Preparation:
The complex, nickel tetracarbonyl is formed when nickel is heated in a stream of carbon monoxide.
            Ni + 4 CO -------> Ni(CO)4

Reaction:
When nickel tetracarbonyl is subjected to higher temperatures it decomposes to give the pure metal
            Ni(CO) -------> Ni + 4 CO
The above reaction happens at a temperature range of 450-470 K.

Structure:
Nickel tetracarbonyl has a tetrahedral structure.

Use:
One use of nickel tetracarbonyl is that it is decomposed at higher temperatues to produce nickel. This reaction is used in the refining of nickel.

Hope it helps! All the best!
