Dear student
Lets assume that the 40% is given as volume percentage.
40% H2SO4 means that the 40 mL of H2SO4 is dissolved in water to make the solution 100 mL.
Thus, volume of H2SO4 = 40 mL
Since density = 1.05 g/mL
Then we can calculate the mass of H2SO4.
density = mass/volume
1.05 = mass/ 40
mass = 42 g
Now,
mass of H2SO4 = 42 g
and total volume of solution = 100
mass by volume percentage is the mass dissolved in 100 mL of the solution
Thus, m/v % = 42 %
