Valency can be easily identified by following method:-
1.Valency or combining capacity of an element is the no. of electrons presents in outermost shell of the element. Thus by observing the outermost shell one can easily identified the valency. Also
2.For metals:- valency is equal to the group no.for ex. alkali metals (1group in periodic table) the valency will be 1,and for alkaline earth metals it will be 2 as group no. 2.
For non metals:- valency is given by group no. minus 10. for ex. for 13 group boron family valency will be 13 - 10 = 3 and so on.
For noble gases the valency is zero as their outermost shells are already complete.
