We aim at : C + 2H_2→ CH_4
C + O_2 → CO_2    -(i)
H_2 + 1/2 O_2 → H_2O   -(ii)
CO_2 + 2H_2O → CH_4 + 2O_2    -(iii)
 
(i) + 2×(ii) + (iii)
C + 2H_2 + 2O_2 + CO_2 + 2H_2O → CO_2 + 2H_2O + CH_4 + 2O_2
It gives C + 2H_2 → CH_4
 
Ethalpy of methane = Enthalpy of (i) + 2×Enthalpy of (ii) + Enthalpy of (iii)
                                  = (-393+2×(-285)+890.3)
                                 = -72.7 KJ/mole
