why are alkali metal surfaces most suited as photo-sensitive surfaces?

Their work funtions are smallest among all metals. So electrons come out easily.
Na - 2.6 eV, K - 2.4 eV and Cs has the lowest work function in the first group 2.2 e V
If you calculate work function corresponding to blue light of 400 nm, you will get 3.1 eV. So even visible light can eject electrons from alkali metal surface.
