In a concave lens, the rays parallel to the principal axis diverge after refraction and hence appear to meet before the optical centre. Therefore, The focus is negative. Whereas, in a convex lens the rays meet after the optical centre once refracted, So the focus is positive. In the question, the lens referred to is convex.
