If f be the focal length of each planoconvex lens then
 
1/F = 1/f + 1/f = 2/f
 
f = 2 * 20 = 40 cm
 
Now in fig c two planoconvex lens are put together,
So focal length of combination =
 
1/F = 1/f + 1/f = 2/f = 2/40 = 1/20
 
Hence 
F = 20 cm
