True.  But other orbitals can also form sigma bond eg: hydrogen. In hydrogen s orbitals form sigma bond

Always remember two things:
 
Linear / Head-on / Co-axial overlapping of orbitals result in sigma bond.
Side-wise / Co-lateral overlapping of orbitals result in pi bond.
