As toluene and chlorobenzene, both can react with mixture of conc.H2SO4 and conc.HNO3, but being more reactive, toluene will yield p-nitrotoluene in excess.

both toluene and chlorobenzene can be nitrated under the reaction condition. However, −CH3 group is more reactive or activating as compared to −Cl atom. This means that p-nitrotoluene is formed in excess
