Inside a conductor, There occurs an induction of charges due to the presence of external field. As we know, the electric field direction is positive to negative. It leads to the induction of negative charge at its positive side and positive charge on the other side. This leads to an internal field which is equal in magnitude but opposite in direction to the external field. Hence, the net field becomes zero.
