Sir i wanna understand e.m.f

hi annand,

emf is nothing but the work done by the battery force per unit charge (i.e work done in taking a charge from the negative terminal of the battery to the positive terminal) so that to continue the flow of current in the circuit or precisely to maintain the potential of the battery. 

e.m.f (electromotive force is not a force )
