the same principle –practice is all what u required , and while reading hc verma , dnt read only theoiry , also , solve numericals and work out example their . so, that it can make u enough strong in numericals , as the numericals are main thing in jee . 
and in mechanics if u want to clear advanced , then solve i e irodov also , and the more ques u will solve , the more grasp u will get . 
and if at anytime u stuck in any nuemricals , then feel free to ask here
