Aerobic respiration is the process of breakdown of glucose in the presence of oxygen releasing energy. It takes place in mitochondria and is a multistep process which produces energy in the form of ATP, carbon dioxide and water. The first step of the process is glycolysis followed by citric acid cycle and electron transport chain.
