Athylakoidis a membrane-bound compartment insidechloroplastsandcyanobacteria. They are the site of thelight-dependent reactionsofphotosynthesis. Thylakoids consist of athylakoid membranesurrounding athylakoidlumen. Chloroplast thylakoids frequently form stacks of disks referred to asgrana(singular:granum). Grana are connected byintergranalorstromathylakoids, which join granum stacks together as a single functional compartment. The membrane of the thylakoids contain the photosynthetic pigments.
