let p be any point on the parabola.a chord passing through p and perpendicular the axis is called double ordinate. For example- latusrectum is a double ordinate which passes through the focus of the parabola.

Double ordinate: Any chord which is perpendicular to the axis of the parabola is called its double ordinate.
