Line them up by their decimal points: 
1.1 
1.2 
1.23 

If it helps, pad the end with zeroes to make them the same length: 
1.10 
1.20 
1.23 

Now you can compare them by looking at their digits going left to right. 
1.2 > 1.1 

And: 
1.23 > 1.2 

Answer: 
1.23 is the greatest

The three numbers are:
1.2
1.23 and
1.1
 
Now since the number to the left side of the decimal are same then we look at the decimal numbers.
 Then we equal the numbers by adding zeroes.
Therefor, they stand as follows:
1.20
1.23
1.10
 
Now we can tell them by just looking at them.
1.23>1.20>1.10.
So 1.23 is the largest.

1.1=1.10
1.2=1.20
1.23=1.23
Now multiply all the numbers by 100, you get 110, 120, 123.
As we can see 123 is the greatest, 1.23 is the answer.
