The bacteria and other microbes are classified into Gram-positive & Gram-negative based on a staining technique introduced by Christian Gram.the Staining method will be learnt in higher classes.Examples are most pathogens like Salmonella,Vibrio,Mycobacterium etc.Gram -positive ones include Strepto and Staphylococcus.

Gram-negative bacteria are bacteria that do not retain the crystal violet stain used in the gram-staining method of bacterial differentiation.

In gram negative bacteria cell wall is made up of teichoic acid . example- cyanobacteria
This bacteria is introduced by christian gram . He used crystal violet dye to identify gram negative and gram positive

Gram negative cell walls contain a thin peptidoglycan layer (without teichoic acids) that is surrounded by a thick plasma membrane. Gram negative bacteria will stain red because the thin peptidoglycan layer is surrounded by the plasma membrane and thus will not stain with crystal violet. Can be decolorized to accept counterstain (safranin) and stain pink or red

GRAM NEGATIVE BACTERIA :
THEY ARE BACTERIA  THAT DO NOT RETAIN  THE CRYSTAL VIOLET STRAIN  USED IN GRAM  STRAINING METHOD  OF BACTERIAL DIFERENTIATION.
 EXAMPLES :
MANY PATHOGENIC BACTERIA  LIKE PSEUDOMONAS AERUGINOSA  ECT

Bacteria can be divided into two groups on the basis of the differences in the cell envelopes and the manner in which they respond to the staining procedure developed by Gramm viz.,
1)THOSE THAT TAKE UP THE GRAM STAINS ARE  GRAM POSITIVE and those who doesn't take up are called as GRAM NEGATIVE.
