Dear student 
Please ind the below attachment of answer of your question , I think it should be cut lke two straight line making a 
traingle from upper square .

Eight parts is the maximum as making another cross out of the two lines and using it to or inserting it in ther= original one will give us 8 parts which is the maximum.

 The maximum number of pieces that can be made is 6 when the two lines are placed perpendiculaly starting from both the top end points
