A spring is nothing but a solenoid. So, at first, it will be magnetized according to Biot Savart law. And, due to this, two consecutive turns will attract each other. As a consequence, the length of the spring will decrease.

It’ll act as a magnet. Thus the consecutive rings would be attracted to each other. Hence length will decrease.
