Can a digit of a 2 digit number be negative ?

For eg, i was given a question involving a quadratic equation .. i took tens digit as x and units digit as y. so when i solved it, i am getting 2 values for x . that is, x = 9 and x= -2..

no a digit of a number can never be negative . the digit as a whole is either positive or negative. So you just have to take positive values for digits.
