NIT SURAT(Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat)
History:
Established in June 1961 with the authorization to run Bachelor's Degree Programs in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering disciplines, the Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat (SVNIT) is one of the 17 REC (Regional Engineering Colleges) that were established as joint project of the Government of Gujarat and the Government of India. Together with the other REC’s it is now changed to NIT (National Institute of Technology). From the session of 1978-79, the institute switched to the 4 year Degree course. Graduate Course in Electronics Engineering was introduced in the year 1983-84, with an intake of sixty students. From the academic session 1988-89, two additional Program, Computer Science and Production Engineering were introduced with thirty students in each. In 1995-96, a degree program in Chemical Engineering was introduced with thirty students which were later amplified to sixty students from the year 1996-97. The college has now been given the status of a Deemed University.
Campus:
The college has a campus spreading over an area of 100 hectares of land on the Surat-Dumas Highway. The college is still progressing with the construction of the buildings of the academic sector. The college in all has seven hostels, six for boys & one for girls’, in total accommodating about 990 students. Then there are a total of 191 units of staff quarters for different categories inside the campus. In addition to these the college has a Canteen, a Students Store, a Dispensary, a Guest House, a Post Office, a branch of the State Bank of India and play ground for games like Football, Basketball, Volleyball and Cricket. The college also has well-established Central Learning resource centers like Central library, Central Computer Centre, Entrepreneurship Development Cell, Continuing Education Centre and Physical Education Section. The college too has three Post Graduate Centers, one each for Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics Departments.
The college also has a Canteen, a Dispensary, a Students Store, a Guest House, a branch of the State Bank of India, a Post Office and play ground for most of the games viz. Football, Volleyball Basketball and Cricket.

Cultural Activities:
‘Mindbend’, is a annual fest to celebrate the beauty of innovation, the joy of creation, the spirit of engineering. Robotics, Predefined Problems, Online events, Lectures, Presentations, informal events, Quizzes, Entertainment are some events which takes place during this fest. “Spars” is the annual cultural fest of SVNIT, Surat, which has a touch for art, dance and music, and of the culture, with the basis of technical education. Sparsh is a 5 day extravaganza, with a mixture of dancing, singing, fashion, acting, poetry, special talent shows and limitless innovative informal events. ‘PRAKRITI’ is an event that looks forward to the main technical skills. ‘Autofest’, is an auto-technical fiesta, with opportunities to explore one’s potential, and is it in technical events, quizzes or auto-botics. A variety of workshops and lectures provided, keeps us update with latest encroachment in the vibrant and ever-expanding automobile industry. Then there is also the ever-popular Auto-Expo. ‘Entru-meet’, is yet another platform to test, enhance and collect the entrepreneurial skill of the youth of the country.
Alumni:
The best institutes in the world have strong alumni support to nurture raw talent and encourage the spirit of entrepreneurship and successful start-ups in the institute. Keeping the same spirit intake is what the institute has planned for the alumni.
