JEE Main 2016 Paper Pattern

It is very important for the students to read all the instructions in the question paper carefully. They should make sure that they have understood well what kind of pen they can use in the paper and how they have to answer a question.JEE Main 2016 Paper Pattern

Still, the information bulletin and the official website gives students specific information about JEE Main 2016 pattern which they should know by heart. It tells students about the type of questions that will be asked in the exam, duration of the exam, marking system or scoring pattern of the exam and the sections of the paper.

Below is the exam pattern announced by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Students can utilize the Syllabus and Paper Pattern of JEE Main 2016 to boost the exam preparation.

JEE Main 2016 exam will hold two papers:

  • Paper 1 for Engineering aspirants (available in online or offline mode)

  • Paper 2 for Architecture or Planning aspirants (available only in offline mode)

  • The other name for online JEE Main exam is the computer based test for JEE Main or JEE Main (CBT).

  • Offline JEE Main exam is also referred to as pen-and-paper based JEE Main exam.

Duration

According to the IIT JEE 2016 exam pattern as specified on its official website, the duration of both the JEE papers will be 3 hours (irrespective of whether it is a pen-and-paper based test or computer based test).

Medium/Language

Candidates can write JEE Main in English or Hindi. Students from Gujarat may choose to write exams in Gujarati medium.

Exam Pattern of JEE Main Paper 1

             JEE Main Pen and Paper based Test (Offline JEE Main exam)

  • Question paper will have three sections: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics 

  • 30 questions will be asked in each section. Overall, 90 questions will be asked in the Paper 1 exam.

  • The exam will have objective-type multiple-choice questions.

  • For each question, four choices will be given. Only one will be correct. 

  • Each question will be of 4 marks.

  • One mark will be deducted from the total score for each incorrect answer.

  • No marks will be deducted for unattempted questions.

 

                 Computer Based Test (CBT) (Online JEE Main exam)

  • Question paper will have three sections: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics

  • 30 questions will be asked in each section. Overall, 90 questions will be asked in the Paper 1 exam.

  • The exam will have objective-type multiple-choice questions.

  • For each question, four choices will be given. Only one will be correct. 

  • Each question will be of 4 marks.

  • One mark will be deducted from the total score for each incorrect answer.

  • No marks will be deducted for unattempted questions.

  • JEE Main CBT will be held on the month of April, 2016

    • Shift 1 will be from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm.

    • Shift 2 will be from 2 pm to 5 pm.

JEE Main 2016 Paper 2 Exam Pattern

Paper 2 will have objective multiple-choice questions in the first two sections and questions related to drawing aptitude in the third section. Its three parts will be as follows:

  • Part I for Mathematics,

  • Part II for Aptitude Test, and

  • Part III for Drawing Test.
