IIT JEE Main 2014
IIT JEE Main exam is the first step of the Joint Entrance Exam held by the CBSE to screen engineering aspirants to NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) as well as engineering colleges and technology institutes run by the state governments and private institutions who have adopted JEE.
States of Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Odisha have given the green signal to JEE Main 2014. Hence, they will not conduct any state-level engineering entrance exam such as Maharashtra CET, Odisha JEE and GUJCET next year.
IIT JEE Main is also the eligibility test for JEE Advanced or IIT JEE exam conducted by the JEE Apex Bard to exclusively select students for undergraduate courses offered by the IITs and ISM Dhanbad.
JEE Main 2014 Pattern
Despite all controversies related to the Top 20 percentile norm and normalization of board marks, the Joint Admission Board (JAB) of the IITs has decided not to introduce changes in the JEE Mains 2014 paper pattern or the JEE Advanced 2014 exam pattern. Hence, the duration of the exam, types of questions asked, scoring pattern and selection procedure will remain largely same as the JEE Main 2013 exam pattern.
Two papers are conducted for the JEE Main exam:
- Paper 1 for engineering aspirants (available in both online and offline mode), and
- Paper 2 for architecture aspirants targeting institutes other than IITs (available only in pen and paper mode or offline mode).
Both the papers have duration of three hours. Language of the question paper can be chosen from English and Hindi. For the students from state of Gujarat, JEE Main question papers are available in Gujarati too.
Exam pattern of Paper 1
Paper 1 will have three sections:
- Chemistry, and
All the sections carry equal weightage.
30 objective-type questions will be asked from each section. Each question will carry four marks.
There is a negative marking system. One mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer from the total score of a student.
Exam pattern of Paper 2
Paper 2 will have three sections too:
- Aptitude Test, and
- Drawing Test.
The first two sections will have objective-type questions while the last section will have questions related to drawing aptitude.
Students will have to carry geometry box, colour pencilsor crayons, eraser, pencils and of course, a clip board to the exam.
