NIT Calicut is one of the top technical universities in India. It was one of the lead institutes under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP), started in 2002, funded by the World Bank, and is one of the few institutions to host its own supercomputer. The NIT Calicut campus is fully residential, with approximately 15 hostels to accommodate students. The seat intake for undergraduate programs was increased from 570 to 1049 in 2011.
