IIT Delhi

History:
IIT Delhi was established as College of Engineering and Technology on August 21, 1961. The foundation stone of the institute was laid down by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and was inaugurated by Prof Humayun Kabir, then Union minister of Scientific Research and Cultural Affairs. Two years later the institute was upgraded to Indian Institute of Technology by the Parliament of India.
Campus:
The IIT Delhi Campus is located in Hauz khas and is spread over an area of 320 acres and adorned with beautiful gardens inside the campus. It is in close proximity to the famous Qutub MInar and the Jawaharlal Nehru University. The campus comprises of 4 zones – Student Residential Zone, Faculty and Staff Residential Zone, Student Recreation Zone and Academic Zone.

Hostel:
IIT Delhi has 11 hostels in all and out these 9 are for the Boys and 2 for the Girls. Each hostel has a huge capacity of around 400 students. All the hostels are complete with its own mess, common room with television and a visiting room for the guests. There is also a computer room in every hostel along with internet connection which is hardly used now since most of the students have their personal computers and internet connection provided in every room.
Departments and Centers:
IIT Delhi consist of 13 Departments and 11 multi-disciplinary centers and they combine together to offer a staggering no of 700 courses every semester

Each Department focuses on a particular Discipline or field and offers courses at both under graduate and post graduate levels. It is headed by the HOD (Head of the Department)

Cultural Activities:
IIT Delhi is popular for its cultural festivals and extra curricular activities be it the annual cultural and arts festival called Rendezvous. It is the largest of its kind in India and attracts huge crowds from colleges all over the country
Tryst is the annual Technical Festival and it consist of popular events like Diathlon, Diathlon, Algorythm, C-maphore
