tension is always pulling force... determine the direction by that..!

But is it different in direction for 1 and 2?

The direction given is the direction of force. For finding direction of tension you have to find resultant tension. Suppose F1 has 2N as Tension towards left and F2 has 3N as Tension towards right. Then the resultant tension is 3N-2N=1N towards right because magnitude of tension is more on the right side. By the way,by the photo I can guess its resonance study material.
