POSITIONAL ISOMERISM:  Isomers which differ in the position of a functional group or multiple bond or substituent in thesame carbon chain are called position isomers.

FUNCTIONAL GROUP ISOMERISM:    Compounds having same molecular formula but different functional groups are called functionalgroup isomers.

IN POSITIONAL ISOMERISM MAIN CARBON SKELETON REMAONS UNCHANGE BUT IMPORTANT GROUPS SHIFTED FROM ONEPOINT ANOTHER,IN FUNCTIONAL GROUP ISOMERISM ISOMERS OF THE FUNCTIONAL GROUP IS DIFFERENT.

hello chethan,
positional isomerism is a type of  when functional groups are different positions on the same carbon atoms.
the functional group isomers are the isomers that have same molecular formulae.

you want positional isomerism and functional group isomerism.this two concepts is very esey.
positional isomerism:which tells position of carbon in carbon chain
functional group isomerism:which tells the different in functional group in carbon chain

DEAR CHETHAN,
POSITIONAL ISOMERS ARE THE ISOMERS WHICH HAS SAME FORMULEA BUT DIFFERENCE IN POSITION OF THE FUNCTIONAL GROUP FUNCTIONAL ISOMERS ARE HAS SAME FOMULEA BUT DIFFERENT FUNCTIONAL GROUP.

dear chetan....Positional isomerism, an example of structural isomerism, occurs when functional groups are in different positions on the same carbon chain. In GCSE Chemistry, you usually meet positional isomers of alcohols and alkenes.

positional isomerism means isomers have same molecular formula but different in their positions in their carbon chain.
funcational group isomerism means isomers have same molecular formula but different intheir funcational groups.

positional isomers are constitutional isomers that have the same carbon skeleton and the same functional groups but differ from each other in the location of the position of function group.

Position isomer:only change in position in any atom or group.in all isomer chapter apporox used one same thing same molecular formula and molecular weight .
Functional isomer are those isomer it has same molecular formula same molecular weight but different functional group are attached...
