An electric current is passed through two electrolytic cells connected in series one containing a solution of dilute sulphuric acid and the other containing a solution of silver nitrate. If 8*10^22Ag+ ions are discharged at cathode in silver nitrate cell find total volume of oxygen liberated at 25 degree Celsius and 750mm of Hg.

 HELLO ANJALI,
first calculate the moles of mole of Ag+ and then from that calculate the moles of Ag
Mole of Ag+ = 8 X 10^22
                     -----------------
                        6 X 10^23
                 =   0.133 moles
now you know that
Ag+  +  e-  ----------------------> Ag
so,
Moles of Ag = Q
                    ---------  X mole ratio
                    96500
0.133  =  Q
            ---------   X 1/1
            96500
so
Q = 0.133X96500
    =     12834.5
Now,
=> 2O^2-  -------------> O2 + 4e-
so
Moles of O2 = 12834.5
                     ---------------  X 1/4
                       96500
                 => 0.03325 moles’
now we know that
 PV = nRT
so V = nRT/P
        = 0.03325 X 0.083 X 298
          ------------------------------------
                          750/760
      = 0.8233L
      => 823.3 ml
all the best
THANK YOU
