The velocities of identical particles with random locations in the calculaton of mean free path follows a Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution. The origin of\sqrt{2}is from the calculation of root mean square velocity obtained from Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution. The \pi=3.14is also a remniscent of the distribution.
