Hint Kulkas:- They were from Russia. They were wealthy. The Duma:- It was an important body created by Tsar Nicholas II. Women Workers between 1900-30:- They worked in factories. They also actively participated in various revolutions. The Liberals:- They supported changes in society. Complete answer: Kulaks:- The Kulaks were the wealthiest peasants in the Soviet and Russian history. They were also known as Golchomag. They owned 24 acres or more land or had employed farmworkers. They were characterized with huge pieces of land and several herds of cattle which made the financially stable. And would also let them employ hired labour and lease the land. The Bolshevik party raided them and seized their goods. Also, it was said that the Kulaks used to exploit the fellow peasants and hoard their grain. This would eventually lead to a grain shortage. All the Kulaks farms were destroyed during the Ukrainian-Soviet war (1917-1921). The Duma:- Duma was basically a Russian name for a representative body. It was applied to the Imperial Duma which was established as a result of the Russian Revolution. It was an elected semi-representative body in Russia (1906-1917). It was established by the leader of the Tsarist regime, Tsar Nicholas II in the year 1905. The Duma has high expectations attached to it from people. They thought it would bring democracy in the state. But later it came to their notice that the Duma will have two chambers out of which only one will be elected by the Russian people and the other one was appointed by the Tsar itself. The chamber appointed by Tsar had veto powers over the other chamber. Later, Tsar retained his ‘Super Autocratic Power’. There were four Dumas in the complete life of the institution. Beginning from 1906, 1907, 1907-12 and 1912-17. All these Duma had a mix of members from peasants to the ruling class, professional men and workers alike. The Russian parliament is called Duma even today. Women Workers between 1900-1930:- The women got employment in factories majorly post-industrialization. They constituted 31% of the labour force. They had the employment but they were paid less than the men. The working conditions were also poor for them. They were seen participating in huge numbers in the 1917 revolution. Some of them even led to strikes. And 22nd February is said to be International Women’s Day as the aftereffect of their participation in the February revolution. The Liberals:- Liberals, politically means a person who believes that a government should be supporting the social and political changes, The ideal liberal is open to all the ideas. They believed in changing society. They thought that all religions are equal as during that the European states would discriminate among one religion or the other. They were not in favour of the uncontrolled rule of kings. They did not like the whole concept of Universal adult Franchise. They were not in favour of women voting. Note The Kulaks were the wealthy Russian peasants. The Dumas was the representative body in Russia. Women workers faced discrimination in pay scale. They had poor working conditions. The liberals were the people who wanted to change society.
