Suppose a conductor ABCD is held in an electric field of intensity E .free electrons move from AB to CD.As a result some neg. Charge appears on CD and an equal and opp charge apppear on AB.They produce an induced electric field £.As the applied field becomes equal to the induced field indide the conductor and are opposite in direction therefore net electric field inside a conductor is zero
