Let the point P be on the right side of midpoint of the rod, so now using 
v=\int_{L/2}^{(L/2) + h}\lambda dx/x,
where dQ = lambda * dx and v = potential
thus, 
v=ln\left [ (L/2+h )/ (L/2) ]
if the point P is on the left then 
v=\int_{(L/2-h)}^{L/2}\lambda dx/x
