selecting in kvpy , have a lot of benifit , as you have direct entry in iiser and iisc like prominent institution , and this exam happens in two tier mode , frst u have to write a written test and some candidate will be shortlisted and then u will be called for interview , in their if u will make out , then fellowship will be awarded to you . 
and coming to the syllabus , yes , it will come upto 80 percent of the 11th syllabus alongwith 10th class syllabus . 
and the test is simmilar like jee advanced but little bit less difficult than that , so, if u are doing ques of jee level , then u will not face any problem , no need of extra preparation . 
just do the last 5 years papers and revise the besics of class 10 .

dear Friend there is a saying – No pains, no gains that measn that iof you work hard then only you have chances to succeed, very true. It means that you will have to make yourself undergo a strenuouis practice to qualify the test for which you’ll have to go for self-study as well as to join some renowned institution for getting coaching for the same, if got selected, well and good, otherwise there are certain other vistas open for you as well, iei you may seek admission at any one of these – BITS, Pilani,.....................Jain University, bangalore,..................Lovely Professional University, Phagwara
