Dear student,
There are different objects which fly. Helicopters can stop in air for a while but aeroplanes cannot stop. Similarly some aeroplanes can take off vertically like helicopters (Military aircraft) but other aeroplanes need a horizontal take off.
So, if we consider for helicopters which can stop in air for a while, they use rotor blades which force air downwards and that helps in keeping them afloat unlike in the case of aircrafts.
