IIT placements reports are so, so misleading. Here are the things you must know about plum job offers IITians receive:
A 1.5 crore package has been offered for only international placements yet. A hefty component of the salary package includes one-time stock options offered by the company which one can only use after spending at least 3-4 years in the company.
Only a handful of companies like Google, Microsoft and Facebook hand out suchdream placement offers. Actual salary they offer would be around USD 125,000 inmost cases, out of which about $45,000 will have to paid in taxes and about $30,000 will be spent as rent for a decent-enough apartment ( if you are in California). So, basically you will be making only about $50,000 a year which is about Rs 30 lakh per annum.
Many-a-times, these inflated figures are leaked to media by either IIT placement offices (to attract and encourage other big recruiters) or by media advisors of these IT giants (as a part of their advertisement agenda).
