self fertilisation can be prevented as most of the pteridophytes(prothallus is the gametophytic generation of pteridophytes) are homosporous(eg:adiantum,pteris).
hence option b is correct
but if we consider the heterosporous nature of pteridophytes(eg:selaginella,salvinia,azolla,marsilea)
then option a is correct.

Hello Criptogams means flower that never open so it is fixed that in this only self fertilization occur so that only thing rest the gamet wait for maturation or the flower may be sterile
