Let the total resistance be “x”

then one can consider that at the penultimate branch the net resitance to be almost equal to be “x”
x/x+1=x
x2-x-1=0
x=(1+\sqrt{5})/2
x=1.62

The total resistance, including the internal resistance=2.12 ohm

The current drawn from the circuit is , I= 12/2.12
I= 5.66 A
