KVPY 2014 selection procedure

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) 2014 is one of the most prestigious scholarship programs in Basic Sciences. Offered by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India), KVPY 2014 is at a stone’s throw away and it is time for you to focus on your KVPY preparation.

Unlike other engineering entrance exams or medical entrance exams, KVPY aims to evaluate candidates on their understanding of concepts and their ability to apply multiple concepts to a single problem. That’s what makes KVPY different from a regular competitive exam.

KVPY 2014 selection procedure

Those eligible for the KVPY will appear for the KVPY 2014 Aptitude Test (or written exam) on November 2, 2014. The admit card for KVPY 2014 exam will be available online tentatively in October and applicants will be able to download it.

Candidates who crack the written exam will be called for an interview, which is the final round of the KVPY scholarship selection procedure.

Three things that you need to keep in mind are:

  1. Download KVPY admit cards at the earliest and in case of a discrepancy, contact exam authorities immediately.
  2. Your exam stationery includes 2 sharpened pencils, a pen, an eraser, a sharpener and a scale. Keep them ready in a pencil box and use it to solve your sample papers too.
  3. Do not rush after every new topic in the KVPY syllabus in the last two or three weeks. Focus on revision of what you already know. Read through your formulae again and again, and stick to important topics.

KVPY preparation before the exam

KVPY 2014 preparation before the exam

Most Class XI and Class XII students who appear for KVPY prepare for engineering entrance exams like JEE Main and JEE Advanced too. Remember that the curriculum of KVPY and JEE Main are almost the same but the paper patterns vary a bit.

KVPY questions are of the same difficulty level as IIT JEE. In fact, they are often easier than IIT JEE questions, hence you should not get stressed out. In the last few weeks, stick to important topics and revise your formulae, theories and facts.

Practice questions from question banks and KVPY sample papers. Try to solve different types of questions from past year KVPY papers for practice. Identify your weak areas and work on them.

Late night studies are not recommended for school students but even if you still think that you study best late at night, try to go to bed early at least on the eve of exam.

Defeat anxiety with concentration. Calm approach will win half the race for you.

On the day of exam…

On the day of exam…

A day before the exam, finish your revision and arrange your pencil box, admit card etc. by 10 pm and go to bed. If you are anxious, go for a walk or listen to some relaxing music.

Next day, wake up early and check everything again so that you don’t forget essentials at home.

Reach the exam centre at least 20 minutes before the exam time and avoid discussing upcoming exam with your fellow students. Take your seat in the exam hall, keep your pens and water bottle in place and be comfortable.

When you get the exam paper, fill the details on the sheet without panicking.

Do not stick to a single question. Attempt easiest questions first and mark the questions in which you will need more time on the question paper. Later, when you have time, go through more difficult questions one by one and try to arrive at the correct answer.

It is important that you do not feel depressed during the exam time as it may hamper your thinking ability. Be focused and try different ways to solve the problem at hand.

Let the exam be over!

life is full of opportunities. So, even if you have not performed well this time, analyze your weak areas and work on them.

Many students give in to the trap of feeling disheartened if they do not perform well enough in a competitive exam. But remember, life is full of opportunities. So, even if you have not performed well this time, analyze your weak areas and work on them.

Sportsmanship spirit will take you a long way on the path of success.
All the best for KVPY 2014! Prepare well and give your best.
