Three Attempts for JEE Advanced May Not be Productive:Reveals Prof at IIT Kanpur

While the Centre may contemplate to allow three attempts to crack the JEE (advanced) examination, a study conducted by a professor at IIT Kanpur proves that it may not be very productive. The study reveals that the performance of students who took a drop of more than two years is generally weaker than that of the students who are able to join the IITs immediately after Class XII.

Professor Dheeraj Sanghi, who has conducted this research, restricted the sample size to IIT Kanpur only. The performance of students from the 2006 batch when multiple attempts were allowed was taken into account. The analysis shows that 184 students in the 2006 batch who appeared for their Class XII in the same year had an average cumulative performance index (CPI) of 7.9. However, in the same batch, 217 students who took their class XII in 2005, with a year’s drop had an average CPI of 7.2. And, the 81 students who cleared their class XII in 2004 had an average CPI of 6.8.
