Students to Take JEE-Mains in Urdu, Gujarati & Marathi In what can be called as a notable move, Government of India has finally given its nod to over 60,000 students from different parts of the country to write their JEE-Mains exams in languages like Gujarati, Urdu, and Marathi.

This is the first time when students will take joint entrance exams in these regional languages at limited centers in Gujarat and Maharashtra.

With the closing of JEE-Mains registration on Monday, top 150,000 students will contend for seats in IITs while the rest will join state and central institutes in India.

Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha in 2013 have approved results of JEE-Mains for admission to their respective technical institutes.

Maharashtra has 35 centers where students now can write their JEE-Mains exams in Marathi, Urdu, English or Hindi while centers in Gujarat will allow students to take the exam in Gujarati, English or Hindi.

“This is a positive trend and will help in giving a level playing field. We are hopeful that more states will join us next year. This will give us a wider platform to include more regional languages for the exam. In the long run, it will benefit the students,” a senior official was quoted as saying.

About 60,142 students have so far registered to take JEE-Mains in Gujarati. 340 have registered to take JEE-Mains in Urdu while 938 in Marathi.
