JEE Main 2014 displaces state-level exams of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Odisha

New Delhi: According to the latest info released by the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Apex Board, JEE Main 2014 will screen candidates for admission to undergraduate engineering programs offered by NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) and state government institutions participating in the exam.

JEE Main will also serve as an eligibility test for JEE Advanced – the gateway exam to the undergraduate courses of IITs or ISM Dhanbad.

In Gujarat, Maharashtra and Odisha, state-level exams will not be conducted next year. The institutions there will use JEE Main system to select their students too.
The rank list used for the purpose will give 60% weightage to JEE Main scores and 40% weightage to normalised marks of Class 12 board exams or equivalent qualifying examination

Information Bulletin by second week of November 2013

 

The detailed information bulletin for JEE Main 2014 will be available for download on its official website – www.jeemain.nic.in – by the second week of November. It will contain all the details related to:

  • eligibility criteria for the exam;
  • eligibility criteria for admission in institutions;
  • examination pattern and syllabus;
  • fees of the exam;
  • cities where the test will be conducted;
  • state code of eligibility;
  • rules and processes related to normalization of marks, relaxation in age limit and reservation of seats; and
  • important dates of the exam.

Apply online from November 15 to December 26

 

Only online application process will be used for JEE Main 2014. It will start from November 15, 2013 and will continue till December 26, 2013 – the deadline for submitting the application form. Facilitation centres have been set up across India to help students fill up application forms online for free. List of such centres is available on the JEE Main website as well as its information bulletin.

F One must double check the eligibility criteria for both JEE Main and JEE Advanced before filling up the application form, as they are different.

JEE Main Examination Pattern 

JEE Main 2014 will have two papers:

  • Paper 1 for B.E. or B.Tech aspirants, and
  • Paper 2 for B.Arch or B.Planning aspirants seeking admission in institutions other than IITs.

Exam pattern of both the papers will be as follows:

Exam Schedule

 

Offline exam or pen and paper based JEE Main exam will be conducted on April 6, 2014.

  • Paper 1 will be conducted in the morning session from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, while
  • Paper 2 will be conducted in the afternoon session from 2 pm to 5 pm.

Online exam or computer based JEE Main Paper 1 exam will be conducted on April 9, 11, 12 and 19, 2014.

  • Paper 1 will be conducted in the morning session from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.
  • If required, second shift might be conducted in the afternoon session from 2 pm to 5 pm.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Age limit: General category students born on after October 1, 1989 and SC, ST, PwD candidates born on or after October 1, 1984 only are eligible for the exam. For institutions in the states of Maharashtra and Odisha (other than IITs, NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs), age limit as imposed by the state-level exams they have been conducting will be used. The age specified on the Class 10 certificate will be considered final for the purpose.
  2. Number of attempts: For JEE Main, maximum number of attempts a student can make is 3. For institutions in the states of Maharashtra and Odisha (other than IITs, NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs), it will remain the same as per the past practices of the state-level exams they have been conducting.
  3. Year of appearance in Qualifying Examination (QE): Students who have appeared for Class 12 board exams in 2012 (for the first time) or 2013 or will appear for it in 2014 only will be able to take JEE Main 2014. 

Examination Fee

Students can deposit the fee through e-challan that is generated after filling up the online application form in any of the branches of the ICICI Bank, Syndicate Bank or Canara Bank. They can also pay the fees through debit card or credit card in which case they will have to pay extra 1.20% processing charge as well as service tax as applicable.
